The First Impressions of Candidates In Miss World

Since last Sunday, gradually, more than 125 candidates from the Miss World started to arrive at this year's host, Indonesia. Delegates from all over the world, meet for one month were they have the most amazing experience they could ever have in their lives.

Two of them, already told us their impressions in these first days of the grand-slam pageant. They are: Erin Victoria Holland, Miss Australia and Sigrídur Ásgeirsdóttir, Miss Iceland.

1. How's Indonesia?
Erin: It's been amazing. Indonesia is so beautiful.
Sigrídur: It is just amazing, can't really believe that I am actually here!

2. From the contestants you've met, which ones are you friends the most?
Erin: We are all grouped into groups of 10 with a chaperone for every activity - so you tend to spend a lot more time together! I have the most amazing group of girls. Canada (my roommate) Cote d'Ivoire, Netherlands, Poland, South Sudan, Fiji, Samoa. But I am slowly getting to meet everyone - all the girls are absolutely gorgeous on the inside and out!
Sigrídur: I have gotten to know Miss Norway and Miss Sweden a bit, because we had the same flight from Doha. Also Miss Hungary. Really great girls. I think the other girls are beautiful and I am looking forward to getting to know them tomorrow and throughout the month.

3. How Indonesian cityzens have welcomed you and the rest of the contestants?
Erin: It was incredible. Right after I stepped off the plane I have been treated with nothing but the most amazing hospitality and respect. It took me forever to get through customs as I kept getting stopped for photos!! Very kind and generous people.
Sigrídur: Oh my they have been just amazing, we got wonderful greetings at the airport and hotel.


Besides that, Miss Australia, told us that some important activities have been done already such as: the Audition for the Talent Competition -where she sang-, Video Profiles and the National Costume Competition.

Las primeras impresiones de candidatas al Miss Mundo

Desde el pasado Domingo, gradualmente, comenzaron a llegar a Indonesia las más de 125 candidatas al Miss Mundo. Delegadas de todas los rincones del mundo, se reúnen por un mes donde tienen la experiencia de sus vidas.

Dos de ellas, ya nos comentan sus impresiones en estos primeros días del certamen grand-slam. Ellas son Erin Victoria Holland, Miss Australia y Sigrídur Ásgeirsdóttir, Miss Islandia.

1. ¿Cómo es Indonesia?

Erin: Ha sido asombroso. Indonesia es tan hermoso. 

Sigrídur: Es simplemente maravilloso. No puedo creer que este realmente aquí.

2. De todas las candidatas que has conocido, ¿con quién pasas más el tiempo o has logrado ser más amigas?

Erin: Estamos todas agrupadas en grupos de 10 con una chaperona para cada actividad - así que tiendes a pasar mucho más tiempo con tu grupo. Tengo el grupo más maravilloso. Me llevo bien con: Canadá (mi compañera de habitación), Costa de Marfil, Sudán del Sur, Fiji y Samoa. Pero, poco a poco estoy llegando a conocerlas a todas - ¡todas las candidatas son absolutamente hermosas por dentro y por fuera!

Sigrídur: He llegado a conocer a Miss Noruega y a Miss Suecia un poco, porque estuvimos en el mismo vuelo desde Doha. También Miss Hungría. Son realmente grandiosas chicas. Creo que las otras chicas son bellísimas y tengo ganas de conocerlas a todas mañana y lo que resta del mes.

3. ¿Cómo los ciudadanos de Indonesia te han recibido y al resto de las candidatas?

Erin: Ha sido increíble. Justo después de salir del avión, he sido tratada con nada más que hospitalidad y respeto. ¡Me llevó una eternidad pasar por la aduana al ser detenida para tomarme fotos! Son personas muy amables y cariñosas.

Sigrídur: Han sido maravillosos, hemos tenido una gran acogida en el aeropuerto y en el hotel.

A parte, Miss Australia, nos comentó que ya se han realizado tres actividades importantes en la competencia: las Audiciones de la Competencia de Talento - donde ella cantó-, los perfiles de las candidatas en vídeo y la Competencia de Traje Nacional.

Rusia, sede del Miss Universo 2013.

Este año Rusia, se convertirá en la sede del certamen de belleza más reconocido del mundo, El Miss Universo.

Donald Trump junto a la actual Miss Universo, Olivia Culpo, anunció este Domingo 16 de junio la sede del concurso durante la emisión de la Gala Final del Miss USA en la cuál también reveló la fecha y el lugar donde se llevará a cabo la final. Será respectivamente el Sábado 9 de noviembre en el Crocus City Hall.

Misses en sus respectivas redes sociales han dado a conocer su 'emoción' por el anuncio de la sede. Una de ellas es Constanza Baéz, Miss Ecuador 2013, quién nos contó esto: "Aquí con el notición súper emocionada" al nuestra página preguntarle cómo se encontraba ante la reciente noticia. Otra Miss quién no dudo en expresar su felicidad fue Nastassja Bolívar, Miss Nicaragua 2013, quién 'tweeteo' en su cuenta de Twitter: "Wow RUSSIA!!!" al recién enterarse de la noticia que ha acaparado los 'headlines' al finalizar este domingo.

Un dato curioso sobre el regreso de Europa a ser sede del Miss Universo es que es la tercera vez -en todo la historia del Miss Universo- que el continente europeo alberga el certamen internacional (Grecia, 1973; Chipre, 2000; Rusia, 2013).

Entrevista: Miss Holanda/Países Bajos Universo 2013 – Stephanie Tency

     Fecha de nacimiento: 12 de diciembre de 1990.

     Pasatiempos: Kickboxing, yoga, navegar y wake-boarding.

   Canción favorita: Tampoco tengo una canción favorita en específico que me guste, pero me gusta escuchar The Lumineers - Ho Hey y Asaf Avidan & The Mojos - One day. 

    Cantante favorito: No tengo un cantante favorito en específico, pero me gusta ‘The Whitest Boy Alive’, una banda.

    Color favorito: Melocotón.

    Plato preferido: Indonesian y Tom Yum Goong; me encantan los platos picantes.

    Persona que más admiras: Tengo tantas personas que admiro por lo que hacen o han logrado. Por ejemplo, Cesar Millán, cruzó la frontera de los Estados Unidos sin tener una Visa a los 21 años, no sabía hablar en inglés y no conocía a nadie en ese país. Ahora, es el “encantador” de perros más famoso en todo el mundo. Él también está comprometido con la fundación ‘Last Chance for Animals’; esta fundación por ejemplo trata de rescatar perros de “dog mills” en los Estados Unidos. “Dog mills” cría perros de una manera muy cruel, los perros criados toda su vida los mantienen enjaulados y cuando son usados, los matan de manera brutal. Admiro realmente a esas personas que empiezan desde cero y se convierten en personas exitosas y hacen algo bueno por el mundo.

   Un sueño/meta: Por supuesto ser Miss Universo 2013 y ayudar a las personas en el mundo que padecen y luchan en contra del SIDA/VIH.

      Un dicho: “Mantén tus sueños vivos. Entiende que para lograr cualquier cosa se requiere fe y creer en ti mismo, visión, trabajar arduamente, determinación y dedicación. Recuerda que todas las cosas son posibles para aquellos que creen.”

    Mejor Miss Universo en tu opinión: Creo que sería Olivia Culpo, porque ella le ha mostrado al mundo que no hay que ser alta para ser una mujer fuerte y convencer a las personas cuando hablas. Ella se presenta en una buena manera y tiene una voz fuerte que convence a todos, realmente admiro su fuerza y confianza.

Preguntas:

    ¿Nos puedes decir que haces diariamente?

Estudio y tengo mi propia compañía llamada ‘My personal trend shopper’. También trabajo como modelo en Holanda/Países Bajos. Y soy embajadora de varias fundaciones en Holanda.

  ¿Nos puedes decir algo sobre tu propio negocio? ¿Cómo haces para balancear tu tiempo entre ser Miss Holanda y una mujer de negocio?

Soy una estilista personal y compradora. Toma mucho tiempo ser una mujer de negocios y al mismo tiempo ser Miss Holanda, pero realmente disfruto cada minuto de ello, yo amo realmente estar ocupada y haciendo cosas todo el día.

     ¿En qué consiste tu preparación para el Miss Universo?

Tu apariencia es lo primero que la gente ve, así que realmente quiero estar en buena forma para la competencia. Lo siguiente es una capacitación para los medios de comunicación enfocado en la televisión, para así estar preparada para esas preguntas difíciles. Creo que es muy importante el estar entrenada en eso si quieres ser Miss Universo, porque todo mundo te está mirando en la televisión y tienes sólo una oportunidad para hacerlo bien. Y lo más importante es disfrutar cada minuto de esta maravillosa experiencia. Creo que es el sueño de toda chica ser parte de esta competencia y actualmente la estoy teniendo. Y ahora soy Miss Holanda por este año, yo estoy muy ocupada haciendo voluntariado. Por ejemplo, soy embajadora de la fundación ‘Energy4all’, es una fundación para los niños con un desorden en el metabolismo. El año pasado recaudé 32170 euros para esta fundación, me llena de un gran sentimiento el hacer algo bueno para este mundo y obtener grandiosas respuestas por parte de los padres que tienen hijos con este desorden. Siento como si hubiese ganado la lotería.

   Olivia Culpo recientemente ganó el título de Miss Universo a pesar de no ser una mujer de gran estatura. ¿Crees que mujeres como ella pueden participar en concursos de belleza o no?

¡Sí! No importa lo alta que seas, lo más importante es como es tu personalidad  y como te expresas ante las personas. Si eres realmente hermosa y alta, pero no tienes una encantadora personalidad, la gente no va a gustar de ti. Creo que lo más importante para ser Miss Universo es como la gente te ve.

    El año pasado, Europa tuvo el mayor número de candidatas como semi finalistas en el Miss Universo. ¿Qué tiene una europea que una americana, asiática, africana u oceánica no tiene?

Creo que las chicas Europeas tienen los pies bien puestos sobre la tierra y son realísticas, y eso es algo realmente fuerte en esta competencia, no dejarte a ti misma descarrilarte y siempre ser tu misma porque es un mundo difícil y tú eres la única que decide como encajar en tu propia vida.

   Muchas personas clasifican como estereotipos a los concursos de bellezas por incidentes previos. ¿Qué harías para demostrarles qué están en lo incorrecto?

Yo creo que lo más importante es demostrarles que eres inteligente y que no tienes medio de mostrarte en un escenario cuando estás dando una presentación. Y otra cosa importante es ponerle energía a grandes fundaciones, yo creo que como Miss una necesita ser embajadora de una fundación en tu propio país para demostrarles a las personas que no todo es brillo y glamour y que eres también un modelo a seguir para muchos, eres alguien que se debe admirar porque haces cosas positivas para el mundo para que así te tomen enserio.

  ¿Cuál crees que sea tu mejor ventaja/virtud que te hará destacar durante la competencia?

Personalidad y ser inteligente. Yo realmente quiero cuidar de todos, y esa creo que sería mi mejor ventaja. No es un juego para mí, todas estamos aquí por la misma razón y definitivamente no envidio a ninguna. Muchas personas dicen que tengo ese “look de Victoria’s Secret” y que soy muy parecida a Doutzen Kroes. ¡Un gran halago!

    Si ganas el Miss Universo, ¿qué harías para que seas recordada como la mejor tendedora del título?

Si yo quiero hacer algo realmente, yo doy un 200% para que eso funcione, soy realmente trabajadora. También porque tengo mi propia compañía, soy una embajadora de varias fundaciones, estudiante y una modelo. Estoy muy ocupada todo el tiempo, pero doy todo de mi para hacer a las personas felices y a mí misma. He recaudado 32170 euros el año pasado para la fundación ‘Energy4all’, fue un trabajo arduo pero fue tan maravilloso ver todas esas caritas felices. Voy a continuar haciendo esto, haciendo a las personas felices y cosas buenas para este mundo.

     Favourite singer: I don’t have a specific favorite singer but I like ‘The Whitest Boy Alive’, it’s a band.

   Favourite dish: Indonesian and Tom Yum Goong soup, I really like spicy dishes.

     Person you most admire: I got so many people I admire because of what they do or what they achieved.  For example Cesar Millan, Cesar crossed the border into the US without a visa when he was 21 years old, he didn’t speak any English, and he didn’t know anyone in the USA. Now he is the most famous dog “whisperer” in the whole world. He is also committed to the Foundation ‘Last Chance for Animals’; this foundation for example tries to rescue dogs from dog mills in the US. Dog mills breed dogs in a very cruel way, the breeding dogs are their whole life stuck in a small cage and when they are “used up” they are killed brutally. I really admire people who start from scratch and become very successful and doing something good for the world.

   A goal/dream: Of course to be Miss Universe 2013 and help people in the world with the disease fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

  A quote: “Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe."
Best Miss Universe in your opinion: I think it would be Olivia Culpo, because she can show the world that you don’t have to be tall to be a strong woman that convinces people when she’s speaking. She really presents herself in a good way and has a strong voice to convince everybody, I really admire her strength and confidence.

Questions

     Can you tell what do you do on your daily basis?

I’m studying and I have my own company called ‘My personal trend shopper’. I also work as a model in the Netherlands. And I’m an ambassador for several foundations in the Netherlands.

    Can you tell us about your own business? How do you balance your time between being Miss Netherlands and a business woman?

I’m a personal stylist and shopper. It takes a lot of time to be a business woman and at the same time being Miss Netherlands, but I’m really enjoying every minute of it, I really love to be busy and doing things all day.

     What is your preparation for the Miss Universe consisting of?

Your appearance is the first thing that people see, so I really want to be in a good shape for the Miss Universe competition. Next to that I get media training for television, so I can always be prepared for difficult questions. I think it’s really important that you need to be trained in that if you want to be Miss Universe, because everybody is watching you on the television and you have only one chance to do it right. And most important is to enjoy every minute of this wonderful experience. I think it is every girl’s dream to be a part of this competition and I am actually going to experience this. And now I’m Miss Netherlands for this year, I’m also really busy doing volunteering. I’m for example ambassador for foundation ‘Energy4all’ it’s a foundation for children with a metabolism disorder. Last year I raised 32170 euro for this foundation, it gives me such a good feeling doing something good for this world and to get wonderful responses from the parents who has children with this disorder. It gives a feeling like I won the lottery.

    Olivia Culpo recently won the Miss Universe title although she was not a woman from a high stature. Do you think woman like her can participate in beauty pageants or not?

YES! What I already explained above, it doesn’t matter how tall you are, the most important thing is how your personality is and how you express yourself to people. If you are really beautiful and tall but you don’t have a nice personality people won’t like you. I think that is the most important thing for being Miss Universe that people look up to you.

    Last year, Europe had the highest number of contestants as semi-finalists in Miss Universe. What does an European woman has that an American, Asian, African or Oceanian doesn't?

I think European girls are really down-to-earth and realistic and that is a really strong thing to have in this competition, don’t let yourself to get misled and always be yourself because it’s a hard world and your the only one who decides how to fill in your own life.

   A lot of people stereotype beauty pageant queens by former incidents, what would you do to prove them wrong?

I think the most important thing to show them you are smart and not afraid to show yourself on the stage when you’re giving a presentation. And another important thing is to put energy in several foundations, I think as a Miss you really need to be an ambassador of a foundation in your own country to show people that its not always glitter and glamour that you also are a role model for a lot of people and that people admire you by you doing something good for the world so people take you seriously.

    What do you think it could be your best advantage/feature that can make you stand out during the competition?

Personality and being wise. I really want to take care of everyone, so that could be my best advantage. It’s not a game for me, we all are there for the same reason and I definitely don’t envy anyone. Lots of people say I have the Victoria’s Secret look and that I’m the look-a-like of Doutzen Kroes. That’s such a big compliment!

  If you win the Miss Universe, what would you do so you could be remembered as the best title holder?

If I really want to do something I give 200% to make it work, I’m a really hard worker. Also because I have my own company, being an ambassador for several foundations, studying and next to that also being a model. I’m really busy all the time but I am doing my outmost best to make everybody and myself happy. I raised 32170 euros last year for foundation ‘Energy4all’, it was really hard work but it’s so wonderful to see all those happy faces. I will continue doing this, making people happy and doing something good for this world.
